A friend. With an urgent request! I need two matching dresses for my girl's birthday party.
Me: Sure, that won't be a problem.
Friend: I need them by next Sunday.
Me: (pause) ohhhhhhhh....OK! I can do it!
And the race was on.
So in the midst of my already tight schedule I carved out a few hours to make a trip to find that perfect piece of fabric. Phone service wasn't too great and sending pictures of the vast selection of printed fabric for my out-of state friend to choose from proved quite the challenge. But mission accomplished!
The next morning after appointments I dug into pattern making with my friend texting the measurements. She did great considering she knows very little about the whole creating/sewing experience.
Next came cutting the fabric. Then sewing them together. Not long into the first dress I realized I needed an arm measurement for the sleeve band. But my friend was not around her measuring tape anymore. I had a deadline and could not waste much time. So I made the quick decision to leave the sleeves till the last to sew in. A do-able but much harder feat. And kept my sewing machine humming and the iron hot. The seams went together easily and one last swipe with the iron and I was making a mad dash out the door and headed to the closest Post Office. Just in time with a few minutes to spare and the birthday dresses were on their way to two special little girls and one happy momma. I did a happy dance and I went home to clean up the mess.
