I'm known for saving boxes. Somehow I simply can not part with something with so much potential! You never know when you will have to ship something fast or just maybe that crafting idea will strike and cardboard becomes a necessity. I had been saving this particular nice sized box for a playhouse project for my little Princess. You know...one of those pinterest ideas that look so appealing. But the airplane party was coming up. I had no photo prop ordered and I was running out of time and budget. So that saved box to the rescue! I asked hubby to pick up a roll of tape and rounded up a roll of wallpaper from its storage place under our bed. And went to cutting out wings and propellers for an easy airplane prop. I was amazed at fast it went together. Within an hour I had eager little people ready to try it out.
The excitement mounted high as the birthday boy anticipated his coming special day! The countdown had actually started months ago at the 10 week mark. With the question "how many more days?" coming very often. His excitement rubbed off on the rest of us to the extent that we were once asked "who's birthday is it for reals?" We laughed! The fact that we all were going to have fun was becoming obvious. I'm known for starting with party decorations early. My reasoning: That's something that CAN be done ahead of time so why wait for the last minute? Plus it can be enjoyed longer. I started with the backdrop/focal point of the party. Using a plastic table cloth that I crinkled for unique effect for the background. I added a few hanging clouds and tissue pom-poms from the ceiling, and streamers down the side. Then I took plain white copier paper, layered several together and randomly cut out small clouds. I used cheap stencils I had gotten from the dollar store years ago and red construction paper to trace his name and other letters. I simply glued the letters to the clouds and the n arranged them on the background. The cute airplane was a printable coloring sheet. And the little dots were simply cut from blue construction paper stripes. Viola! Our focal point was finished. Check out the following posts for more details from the adventurous airplane party.
